Though it might seem on the surface to be just another fundraiser (which, of course, it is!), Bard Ball 2011 seeks to do more than raise money for AST’s upcoming season. The lucky folks who attend on Friday, the 18th at the Governor’s Mansion, will find out more about our summer festival but likewise will be treated to original, live performances by Arkansas musicians, writers, musicians, and actors. This night promises to be a celebration of the enormous artistic talent to be found in our state and how, with your help, we can grow and magnify that talent. Where else can you hear a lute player followed by an original song by The Conway Twitties, entitled “Shakespeare Ruined My Plans”? Where else might you witness AST Company Member Josh Rice perform his Othello rap on the heels of an original sonnet by Trenton Lee Stewart? Good luck finding all of that, good food and drink, and a silent auction anywhere else in Little Rock. And did I mention the piece, delivered by Hendrix College Murphy Writer-in-Residence Ty Jaeger, “I thought I was a Bottom, but it Turns Out I’m a Puck”? Enough said. Buy your tickets today.
