Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre is excited to invite youth of all ages to participate in auditions for the 2014 summer season. Auditions will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, in UCA’s Reynolds Performance Hall.
No preparation is necessary, but participants should be ready to sing, move and read from a script. To secure an audition, email firstname.lastname@example.org with an actor’s name, age and a description of any pertinent singing, dancing or acting experience. We will respond with an assigned audition time.
The 2014 summer season consists of the musical Pippin, Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Two Gentlemen of Verona, and a special adaptation of The Comedy of Errors geared toward young audiences.
We are particularly interested in casting the role of Theo in Pippin. (Theo is the son of Catherine, Pippin’s love interest.) The actor playing this character must be a strong singer and dancer. Limited roles in other productions are also available. Rehearsals for the main stage season begin May 13, with performances beginning June 5 and lasting through June 29.
The youth auditions on March 9 will also serve as the entry process for The Groundlings Company (TGC), Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre’s pre-professional training program. This summer, TGC students will receive instruction in Shakespearean acting techniques, discover the secrets to stage combat and participate in daily rehearsals for Tom Stoppard’s 15-Minute Hamlet. This hilarious adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic will be performed as a curtain-raiser prior to Two Gentlemen of Verona in the Argenta Arts District on June 19, 21 and 22. TGC will take place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on weekdays June 9-20. Tuition for the program is $400. Scholarships are available based on need.
